hey everyone. :). this is something i heard during a debate on the radio.

what does everyone think of the price of fame today?. do you think kids want it too young, and how do they cope when the fame is gone.

I think it depends on what you mean by fame. Fame is long lasting and depends on something you do. It endures after you have died or faded in to obscurity. The pilot who saved all those people in the hudson river or other heros like on 911, they are rightfully famous. It is a good thing. People who do something worthwile usually are grounded and can handle the press and exposure. They also know when enough is enough and can set limits. They realize that the exposure is just part but not all of their life.

What you are describing is fame is really notoriety or adulation. It is for something you are or have. brittany spears, or the my umbrella-ella-ella girl sorry can't remember her name, fall in to that category. how they handle it depends on their character and maturity. obviously to get where they are, many of these young kids were raised in a skewed environment. They believe the world centers around them. After all mommy made sure they were pushed to the fore at all costs. So, perks are expected and not appreciated. sorry if I sound harsh. people like Paris Hilton, and her ilk make me sick. At least the singers have tallent. Hey, I can go out sound like a bimbo ddrink too much and act like an idiot. Thej only reason people care is because she has a lot of money and a good publicist. What actually have they done to make a better world?

Then of course we have whacko jacko. I can not believe that more time was spent yesterday on his overblown excuse for a funeral then was spent on pope john paul's demise. yes, I knowMr. Jackson was the king of pop. He also was a child molester, suffered from severe emotional problems, and was justweird as can be. Where are are values.

what i mean is, do you think shows like american idol, big brother, america's got tallent etc are inspiring kids to want to be famous?

what they were saying on the radio debate, is that they think partly parents re to lame, i mean, 10 11year lds wanting to go on american idol, it's out ragious in my opinion. they were also saying that's all kids want nowadays, and just by having your hair done nice or getting a makeover at young ages is making the image of fame, in my opinion out of control

yes. i agree it is wa-a-a-ay out of control. Fame for it's own sake is sick. What happened to parents wanting their kids to cure cancer, find world peace, or any number of worthwhile things. It's a form of self gratification and greed by many parents i fear.

Kids want to be famous because lots of parents tell their children that they can be whatever they want to be as long as they make a lot of money. Everyone's goal these days seems to be to be able to wipe their ass with money. I can't imagine why possessing a mansion, beach house, island, six cars, private jets, a boat, and the fanciest clothes is so many people's dream. It's disgusting, and shows that people don't value much.
At least some of the rich and famous people are setting some kind of a good example by spending money on serious issues abroad such as Jordan Sparks raising and putting money toward preventing further spread of malaria. I love hearing about things like that.

jordan sparks should be commended. however, at least as the media portrays it, she's the exception. another related thing. why is it that a celebrities take on an issue is more meaningful to some than an expert in the same field? i mean who cares what madonna thinks about aids i want an trained professional to give me statistics.

Well, people will go with whoever is making more money, which is usually the celebrity. Why? Well, because then people start attaching helping out less fortunate people to being successful, rich and famous. And besides, celebrities, not just some trained professionals are more likely to set trends. Some know-it-all with a degree is not going to be as thrown into a kid's face as a celebrity in a music video or on a magazine cover.
